About Bayswater’s owners

Louise and Chester Rendell are long time residents of Paihia and originally purchased the property in 1983 when it was a Motel and Tea House. It took about six weeks for them to work out that there was no money in “scones, jam and cream”, and it wasn’t long before the ‘Courtyard Restaurant’ morphed out of the original Tea House. The Courtyard enjoyed a successful run and later became ‘Bistro 40’ in 1988 and then ‘Only Seafood’ was established above Bistro 40 in 1991. JFC was launched pre covid in 2019. The businesses were subsequently sold and premises leased in 2025.

Louise and Chester continued to live on the property.

‘Bayswater’ was launched in 2007. Over the last 19 years, Bayswater has become a popular place for people to stay in Paihia. Louise and Chester hope you will come and stay with them and enjoy what Paihia and the Bay of Islands have to offer.
